The best time to visit Jiuzhaigou is in late spring and autumn, specifically in April, May, September and October. During these months, the water levels are ideal, creating numerous waterfalls and streams.

How many days should I spend in Jiuzhaigou?

For travellers, including amateur photographers, one day is usually enough to take in Jiuzhaigou’s main attractions. However, for professional photographers with more complex equipment, two days may be more suitable.
It is recommended to plan for a single-day visit during the high season, as re-entry requires the purchase of an additional full-price ticket (220 RMB + 90 RMB), with no discounts available.

Jiuzhaigou opening hours

Jiuzhaigou’s opening hours vary depending on the season:
·From 1 May to 15 November: 7.00 am to 7.00 pm.
·From 16 November to 30 April: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Re-entry to the Scenic Area during the Low Season
Re-entry during the low season is a recommended option, as there are fewer tourists and costs are lower.

Re-entry during the low season costs 20 RMB. When purchasing your ticket, you can choose between a one-day or a two-day pass. If you choose the two-day option, you must pay for both days when purchasing your initial ticket. Your photo will be taken at the park entrance to validate your entry on the second day. If you decide to re-enter on the second day after having purchased a single-day ticket, you must inform the park staff before leaving.

Dos and don’ts in Jiuzhaigou

The Jiuzhaigou region is situated at a relatively high altitude. Although altitude sickness is not as severe as in Tibet, it is advisable to take certain precautions to avoid discomfort.
1. Be respectful when taking photos of locals and yaks. Ask for permission if you wish to photograph yaks on the road.
2. Respect Tibetan customs in Jiuzhaigou. Be courteous to the local people.
3. Bring a thermos flask with a hot drink if travelling in winter, as it is difficult to find hot water in the scenic area.
4. If you experience symptoms of altitude sickness, such as rapid breathing, dizziness or nausea, rest and consider bringing some chocolate to alleviate the discomfort caused by the altitude.
