How to get to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu?

Jiuzhaigou is renowned for its mysterious charm and its unspoilt, unique beauty. The natural landscape, which includes lakes, waterfalls, snow-capped mountains and forests, is known as a fairy-tale world, making people feel as though they have returned to their childhood. From April to November, which is the peak tourist season in Jiuzhaigou, thousands of visitors arrive to admire its breathtaking beauty. No matter what time of year you visit, you will always find natural wonders and fantastic scenery waiting for you. How can you get to Jiuzhaigou from Chengdu, and how long will it take? Below are the transport options for travelling from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou.


By plane

The most convenient way to get to Jiuzhaigou is to fly first to Chengdu or Chongqing, and then travel on to Huanglong Airport in Jiuzhaigou. There are numerous domestic flights from major cities to Chengdu and Chongqing. From Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, there are approximately 20 daily flights to Huanglong Airport, with a flight time of around 40 minutes. From Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, there are a few daily flights to Jiuzhaigou, and the journey takes approximately 1 hour. Jiuhuang Airport is located in Songpan County, 88 km from the Jiuzhaigou Valley and 43 km from Huanglong National Park. Opened on 28 September 2003, it offers direct flights during the peak tourist season to cities such as Xi’an, Kunming, Zhangjiajie, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Shanghai. From the airport, there are buses to Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong.

By bus

Another option is to travel from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou by bus. Tickets can be purchased at the Xinnanmen and Chadianzi bus stations. Every day, many buses depart from these stations for Jiuzhaigou. Between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, more than ten buses leave from Chadianzi station. It is advisable to buy your ticket a day in advance. The bus journey from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou takes between 7 and 9 hours.
From Mianyang to Jiuzhaigou, tickets can be purchased at Pingzheng Bus Station in Mianyang. Buses depart every morning and the journey takes approximately 8 hours.
If you do not take a direct bus to Jiuzhaigou Valley, you can travel first to Jiuzhaigou County. There are buses to Jiuzhaigou County from 6.30 am to 12.00 pm every day. Jiuzhaigou County is 40 km from Jiuzhaigou Valley, and there are local buses connecting the two places. From Dujiangyan to Jiuzhaigou, there are three buses a day. The journey usually takes 8 to 9 hours, provided there is no traffic.

Additional notes

There are currently no direct buses from Chengdu, Mianyang or Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong National Park. You will need to take a bus from Jiuzhaigou to Chuanzhu Temple in Songpan, and then make your way to Huanglong National Park.
In Songpan County, there are two stations: Songpan Bus Station and the Aba Transport Station. Buses depart daily from these stations to Chengdu, Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong.
The village of Chuanzhushi, situated at the junction of Songpan, Hong Yuan, Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong, is a convenient transport hub for changing buses.
